CGI
This updates my article at:

CGI for Not Yet Techies

Not much to say here. CGI is still an extremely
common way to make webpages interactive.

However, it is facing stiff competition from newer
technologies such as PHP and ASP.NET.

It still provides a basic framework and terminology
for installing Perl scripts on a web server,
processing information in web forms etc.

A lot of CGI programs are still being written and
are widely available on many CGI and
programming websites.

CompTIA CDIA+
This updates my article at:

CDIA for Not Yet Techies

Now CompTIA is calling this CDIA+. It's not well known
since not many people know about document imaging
architects. However, they say 4600 such architects
now have earned their CDIA+, which grew 63% from
2001-2003 after I wrote my original article.
The old 1995 exam was updated in 2001.

Generally, what they do is plan, design and specify
a document imaging/management system. They
must know about color science, imaging and the flow
of data from paper to database and back to paper
or into an electronic format. It is an integral part
of managing documents and data -- and content,
including web content. It also includes the function
of disaster preparation and recovering.

Backing up your data won't do your company any
good if it's stored electronically at the same site -- and
you are bombed by a terrorist or wiped out by a fire.

Demand for these professionals is high at such
companies as Xerox, Canon, Ricoh, Minolta, Konica and
Fujitsu.

Hyland Software, a leading supplier in the document
imaging industry, requires every employee to have CDIA+.
