Java
This updates the article at:

Java for Not Yet Techies

The current version is 2, and Sun MicroSystems is developing
this in three versions:

Java 2 Enterprise Edition - J2EE

Java 2 Standard Edition -- J2SE

Java 2 Micro Edition -- J2ME

They are aiming making Java a full-scale language for
developing software applications at all levels of
computing, from small PDAs to worldwide distributed
networks connecting large businesses.

The news is in a thousand and one details, from new and
more software applications, clustering software etc.

Java is used by many cellphones to play games, for example.
Plus for many major corporations with world-wide networks.

It's interesting to note that Sun MicroSystems is making
a terrific effort to jump over the comprehensive program
Microsoft created with its .NET technology. It'll be
interesting to see how Microsoft responds.

Sun MicroSystems has just lost a patent infringement lawsuit
by Kodak but it'll no doubt appeal the recent verdict and
so it's diffificult to think this will make any real
difference.
