Ethernet
This updates the article at:

Ethernet for Not Yet Techies
Bob Metcalfe invented Ethernet while at the Xerox Palo Alta
Research Center by writing a memo describing it - dated
May 22, 1973.

It began as a shared packet network running about 3 megabits
per second and grew into 10-mbps technology and today 1G
(gigabyte) is common.

Plus, corporations are adopting 10G Ethernet, introduced in
2002. There is talk of eventual 40G and 100G Ethernet.

The cable to support 10G is 10GBase-T. This will allow 10G
Ethernet to run over Category 6 cabling up to 330 feet.

Over 95% of all applications begin and end on Ethernet.
