The upcoming version of Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework
is 2.0. With the widespread proliferation of various small,
wireless devices, this technology is becoming ever more
important to Microsoft's strategic plan to rule the
universe -- that is, maintain market dominance in the IT
industry.

Programs written for .NET Compact Framework version
1.0 will work with version 2.0. This should apply to all
devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), cell
phones and set-top boxes.

One reason for the upgrade, besides the need to keep up
witht he available hardware, is the need to keep up with the
latest changes in .NET programming languages such as C#, now
in version 2.0. It was also designed to be used on conjunction
with Visual Studio 2005, once nicknamed Whidbey.

.NET Compact Framework 2.0 will also support Direct3D and
DirectDraw Mobile APIs -- for game developers.

It also supports IPv6 and SOAP 1.2.
