ASP.NET for Not Yet Techies

The official name for the next version -- 2.0 --
is ASP.NET Whidbey. It is currently in beta,
so ASP.NET 1.1 is the official current version.

According to Microsoft, ASP.NET is the fastest
growing web development platform in the world.

I could not find any explanation for the code
name, "Whidbey" -- maybe it's the last name of
the project manager.

Their goals are to make ASP.NET more productive
for developers, more popular with managers and
faster for web site visitors.

They do plan to keep it backward compatible
with ASP.NET 1.1, the current version.
