Sun Microsystems has added a lot of Java certifications.

The foundation credential everyone must start with is
the Sun Certified Java Programmer / SCJP.

1. You must pass the Sun Certified Programmer for the
Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition 1.4 CX-310-035 exam.

You can then advance into the area of Java you prefer:

Standard Edition - J2SE
Enterprise Edition - J2EE
Micro Edition - J2ME

For the Java Standard Edition / J2SE, you can get the
Sun Certified Java Developer / SCJD credential.

1. Pass the Sun Certified Developer for Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition - Programming Assignment CX-310-252A).
2. Pass the Sun Certified Developer for Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition - Essay Exam CX-310-027.


For the Java Enterprise Edition / J2EE:

I. Sun Certified Web Component Developer / SCWCD

Pass the Sun Certified Web Component Developer for
the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition 1.4 CX-310-081 exam.

II. Sun Certified Business Component Developer / SCBCD

Pass the Sun Certified Business Component Developer
for Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition 1.3 CX-310-090 exam.

III. Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services / SCDJWS

Pass the Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services
CX-310-220 exam

IV. Sun Certified Enterprise Architect / SCEA

1. Pass the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for the Java
2 Platform, Enterprise Edition - Mulitple Choice exam CX-310-051

2. Pass the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for the
Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition - Assignment CX-310-300A

3. Pass the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for the
Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition - Essay Exam CX-310-061

V. For the Java Micro Edition / J2ME, you can get the Sun Certified
Mobile Application Developer / SCMAD

Pass the Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer for the
Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition, Version 1.0 CX-310-110 exam

All of these are important for Java developers, though obviously you
beyond the foundation exam, you must choose your credential based on
the type of work you do or wish to do.
