SAP
This updates the article at:
SAP for Not Yet Techies
Founded in 1972 by five ex-IBM employees, SAP is a
German company and one of the giants in the ERP /
Enterprise Resource Planning software industry.
SAP previously used a version system for their
packages of R/1 etc. The R/ stood for "real time
processing." R/1 came out in the 70s, R/2 in 1982 and
R/3 in the 1990s.
Now they have a variety of options under the
"MySAP" label. There are 4 options:
mySAP ERP Financials
mySAP ERP Human Capital Management
mySAP ERP Operations
mySAP ERP Corporate Services
They are facing competitive pressure from companies looking
for cheaper EAI / Enterprise Application Integration middleware
and from Oracle having just taken over PeopleSoft, making them
a very large ERP company as well.
