QBasic
This updates the article at:

QBasic for Not Yet Techies

The current version of QBasic or QuickBasic is 7.1, still
maintained by Microsoft, but apparently they will not
come out with more versions.

QBasic is sort of a software version of a chimpanzee.
One of its cousins evolved into Visual Basic and
recently into VB.NET. QBasic is still a limited
programming language good for beginners to learn
programming on and to create games with.

Creating games seems to be the main activity of
active QBasic programmers and enthusiasists.
